Starting a new fiscal year

BTPO is starting several new planning projects this year which are intended to update several old plans and planning tools. While the activities are related to updates of previous activities these activities impact each person in the Pocatello Urban area. A summary of the planned activities follows:

Travel Demand Model Update

We use TransCAD modeling software to model current and future traffic conditions within the Pocatello Urbanized Area. Travel demand models are a useful tool in determining traffic trends and problem areas within the region. The cities of Pocatello and Chubbuck use the data from the thisl model to assist them in developments and updates of the comprehensive plans. This tool allows a community to plan ahead and determine where the next improvements should be located way before the problem exists. The planning process is expected to take two years to complete.

Demographic Update

2010 is a census year. The census allows agencies like BTPO to determine how accurate their population forecasts and estimates are and to re-establish base line numbers. The US Census Bureau estimates the 2010 numbers will be available in January 2011.

Transit Planning

A lot of changes are planned for the transit system. On November 9, 2010 proposed modifications to the fixed transit routes will be presented at a public meeting. This public meeting will be held at Pocatello City Hall from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This year there will also be rider surveys . The surveys will determine where people ride and determine any changes needed.
