Public Meeting Notice

Bannock Transportation Planning Organization to Host Public Open House on July 31 to Solicit Feedback on Recommended Projects for the Metropolitan Transportation Plan

Bannock Transportation Planning Organization (BTPO) will hold a public open house on Wednesday, July 31 to collect feedback from the public as it updates the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP). The open house will be held at the Pocatello City Hall, 911 North 7th Avenue, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. The open house format will allow individuals to view information and visit with project staff anytime between those hours. “A great deal of research into existing plans, transportation data and growth projections has led us to a list of recommended projects for our area,” said BTPO Director Mori Byington. “The public’s feedback on these projects is a very important part of the MTP process, and we encourage everyone to come out and review this new information.”

The MTP provides a twenty-year approach to identify transportation problems in the region and provide a guide to potential solutions. The BTPO planning area runs from Portneuf Gap north along the Pocatello and Bannock Mountain ranges until it reaches the Fort Hall Indian Reservation. It is just over 100 square miles and includes the Cities of Pocatello and Chubbuck.

If you cannot attend the public meeting on July 31, BTPO has set up an online commenting map (https://communityremarks.com/bannock/) to make it easy and convenient for the public to provide feedback on this important transportation plan.

Public comment is being accepted until Friday, August 30. For more information about this effort, please contact Andrea Gumm at agumm@langdongroupinc.com or by phone at (208) 870-8751.

Good Luck with the application. We cannot wait to see another connected section of the Greenway Trail! The Portneuf Greenway Foundation is pleased to announce that it will be submitting grant applications to the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation (IDPR) Recreational Trails Program to extend the Greenway’s Brennan Trail and to install a pedestrian bridge connecting the new trail to the Millward Mile Trail.

The new trail will be located along the east side of the Portneuf River across from Pocatello’s Sacagawea Park.

Work proposed in the grant application includes clearing brush and grading, graveling and paving about 1600 feet of new trail from the north end of the existing Brennan Trail to the Millward Mile Trail.

The pedestrian bridge will be a prefabricated structure installed adjacent to the existing bridge for the North Main Extension.

The trail extension will provide a safe off street route for pedestrians and cyclists travelling along the North Main Extension and will add another trail loop to the system of trails in Sacagawea Park.

The Greenway will use this grant funding to contract for construction on property owned by the City of Pocatello.

Please message the Greenway on Facebook, email portneufgreenwayfoundation@gmail.com or write the Greenway at P.O. Box 71, Pocatello ID, 83201.
